Life. Parenting. Fussy Eating

Life is hard. Parenting is hard. Parenting a child who rejects nearly all foods known to man is really, really hard. It can be confusing, frustrating, isolating and sometimes terrifying (how is it humanly possible to survive on so few foods?).

I didn’t know about ARFID (avoidant/resistant food intake disorder) or SED (selective eating disorder) when my son was little or when I decided to write a book about our experience. I don’t have a tertiary education. This is my first book, and while anyone who writes may call themselves a writer, it’s not a title that I’m 100% comfortable with. This story needed to be told and I wanted to tell it, so I did.

If you won’t be offended by my lack of credentials and/or writings skills, but would like to read the heart felt story of a regular mum with one confusing, frustrating, isolating and sometimes terrifying experience to share then you have come to the right place.

The book I wrote

Please don’t be put off by the knife wielding, bloodied butcher’s apron wearing banana on the front cover. If you’d been present when I was trying to feed my son a broad range of delicious and nutritious foods you’d know that this is only the slightest exaggeration.

There might not have been any psychopathic bananas in our house but the screaming and running in terror were certainly real enough.

I don’t have a lot of answers but I try to point you to people who might. The lack of answers might be frustrating but I hope I make up for it with empathy, solidarity and just the teensiest bit of humour.
